RCTA Tennis Tournaments

Each season the RCTA runs a series of singles, doubles and mixed doubles tournaments for adults. This year, 2016, we will be experimenting with new formats and a revised schedule, as well as maintaining many of the traditional tournaments on our customary schedule.

The purpose of the new formats is to make it easier for players to fit the tournaments into their schedule and not have to make themselves available over an extended period of time.

The Mixed, Women's and Men's Open Doubles will be round-robin formats, using short sets and no-ad scoring. This will allow all participants multiple matches during a pre-determined single-afternoon time frame. This means each team will play several other teams, win or lose. Depending on the number of entries, semi-finals and finals may be played on the following day.

The Men's 60+s Singles, Women's Open Singles, and Women's 45+ Singles will be consolation-draw tournaments. This tournament will also use short set, no-ad scoring. Following the first round, winners will move onto their second round matches and losers will move into a consolation second round. Winners in both brackets will then play a 3rd-round match. If the size of the draw requires subsequent rounds, those rounds will be played the following day. The entire tournament will take place in a single weekend, and all players are guaranteed at least two matches.

The Men's Open Singles, Men's 45+ Singles, and Men's B (intermediate) Singles will be traditional best-of-3 set, single-elimination draws, played over the number of weekends required by the draw size, with one round per weekend day. In September, we will have age-group Men's and Women's Doubles, with dates and formats to be decided after an evaluation of the new formats in the early summer.

Draws are limited to the first 32 paid players in singles (64 for Men’s Open) and to the first 16 paid teams in doubles.

Balls will be provided for all matches.

To play in any of these events you must be an RCTA member. Entry fees are modest: $30.00/person in singles, $50.00/team in doubles. Trophy prizes are awarded to the finalists in all divisions. Once you have joined the RCTA, you can sign up for any of these events online.

The dates for this year's tournaments will be published once they've been established.
